Romans 14:1-4 - Do Not Judge One Another – Dec 16, 2024
Scripture Reading: Romans 14:1-4 (KJV)
"Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand."
Devotional Thought
Paul addresses the importance of unity and grace within the body of Christ, encouraging believers to avoid judging one another over disputable matters. Differences in practices or convictions should not divide us because we all belong to the Lord. Instead of judging, we are called to receive one another in love and trust God to work in each person’s life.
Supporting Points
Accept one another in love. Paul urges believers to receive those who are "weak in the faith" without engaging in arguments over disputable matters. Unity in Christ requires humility and a willingness to embrace others despite differences.
"Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God." (Romans 15:7, KJV)
Just as Christ has welcomed us with grace, we are called to extend the same grace to others, fostering unity in the church.
Do not judge or despise others. Paul warns against looking down on fellow believers who hold different convictions. Whether someone chooses to eat or abstain, their actions are between them and the Lord. Our role is to love and encourage, not to judge.
"Judge not, that ye be not judged." (Matthew 7:1, KJV)
Judging others creates division and distracts from our own walk with God. By focusing on our relationship with Christ, we can leave judgment to Him and foster a spirit of love and acceptance.
God is the ultimate judge. Paul reminds us that each believer stands before their own Master, who is God. It is He who upholds and strengthens His servants, ensuring that they stand by His power and grace.
"Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" (Genesis 18:25, KJV)
God’s judgment is perfect, and His grace sustains each of His children. Trusting Him to guide others frees us from the burden of judgment and allows us to focus on building up the body of Christ.
