1 Corinthians 6:12-14 - Honoring God with Our Bodies - Feb 4, 2025
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:12-14 (KJV)
"All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power."
Devotional Thought
Paul teaches that our bodies are not our own but are meant to honor God. This passage challenges us to consider how we use our bodies and to live in a way that reflects our belonging to the Lord.
Supporting Points
Not all permissible things are beneficial.
Paul encourages believers to exercise self-control and avoid being enslaved by anything.
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
(Galatians 5:1, KJV)
Our bodies belong to the Lord.
Paul reminds us that our bodies are meant for God’s purposes, not for sin.
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."
(Romans 12:1, KJV)
We are destined for resurrection.
Just as God raised Christ, He will raise us, affirming the eternal significance of our bodies.
"Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body."
(Philippians 3:21, KJV)
